About Me | Sal The Foodie

Hello everyone! I'm Sal, a foodie, retired veteran, and home cook with several years of experience in developing recipes and sharing fitness-focused tips.

I was born and raised in the D.M.V. area where I was known as the tomboy of the neighborhood. If you were looking for me, I was most likely out playing basketball or football with the boys. They would often bully me but I always managed to outshine them with my skills and a smile! Sports and fitness gave me purpose and confidence from an early age, and it has continued to drive my career choices.

In 2014, I enlisted in the Army as a Food Inspector. I guess you can say that was the start of my "foodie" journey. While on active duty, I started making my meals and desserts from scratch in my barracks room. This process was therapeutic and a fantastic way to deepen my understanding of food. Eventually, I began to take things more seriously and launched my online blog in 2019.

In 2020, I was stationed in Naples, Italy, a dream come true for me since I am obsessed with Italian food. Being overseas and traveling only fueled my passion for food even more. I took cooking classes to learn how to make pasta dishes from scratch and indulged in enough pizza and pasta to last a lifetime! When I returned to America, I needed to take a break from Italian cuisine for a while! (lol).

I retired in 2023 and have continued to expand my knowledge of food and fitness to help other fit foodies. I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Nutrition and Wellness. I am also the owner of Sal's Sweets Bakery (see menu bar for more).

I am looking forward to creating more!

Please enjoy!
